Monster Sushi
This place was once called Godzilla Sushi. Just about the time when the Godzilla machine came to Broadway and 23rd Street to film people in the street at night reacting to the later added computer graphics, just before that, the restaurant received cease and desist letters from lawyers representing Toho Films. The letters are displayed in the window for anyone to read. The name on the front of the restaurant was changed, but there are still movie marquee posters of Godzilla inside and while eating there you will most likely faintly hear the trade mark roar of Godzilla from somewhere.
The new official logo for the renamed restaurant has a fierce looking fish and to bring this description finally to the food: the pieces of fish for their sushi are gigantic; er, monster-sized. There are other well-known Japanese dishes on the menu but sushi and sashimi are definitely the focus of what is happening here.
The decor is the usual lovely clean and austere lines of Japanese style wood paneling. The prices, considering the size of the servings, are very reasonable.

Awful 2/7/04
Service is slow and inconsiderate. Management does not value the customer opinions. |
